Established in 1946, as Smethurst and Buckton, our aim has always been to provide a high quality professional service, with a personal, friendly approach.

OUR SERVICES

Accountancy & Business Advice

We can provide assistance to your business in many ways including the preparation of financial accounts, business plans, cash-flow forecasts and management information. Our business advice is based upon many years of experience and we are also regulated to advise on a range of investment business activities.

Audit

We are registered auditors, authorised and regulated by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. In addition to statutory audits, we also provide specialist services which include the audit of charity accounts, solicitors, social clubs and associations and accounts requiring audit by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Record Keeping &
Making Tax Digital (MTD)

We offer ongoing administration support in the form of record-keeping using traditional desktop software or cloud-based apps. We also offer completion of VAT returns and CIS services. We either process the information ourselves or provide training to enable our clients to maintain their own records.

Start-ups

We advise on all aspects of business start-up, including consideration of business structure, compilation of business plans and cash-flow forecasts, company formation and registration with HM Revenue & Customs.

Taxation

We provide both compliance and tax planning services. Areas covered include personal tax, corporation tax, VAT, machine games duty, PAYE, national insurance, inheritance and capital gains tax.

Payroll Services

We provide a full bureau service which covers all aspects of payroll processing, including RTI, year-end reporting, pension auto-enrolment and construction industry returns. We also provide assistance to businesses who maintain their own payroll records.

Jenny Mulholland Email

Jenny MulhollandJenny Mulholland joined the firm in 1987 after graduating from Warwick University, and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1991. After raising a family, she became a partner in 2007. Jenny has a wealth of experience in general practice, tax and is also registered as an auditor with ICAEW.

Lee Brown Email

Lee BrownLee Brown joined the practice in 1989. He has over 30 years’ experience of advising and assisting a wide variety of clients in accounts and taxation matters. In this time, he has amassed extensive knowledge of businesses within the agricultural and motor trade sectors.

Helen Spauls Email

Helen SpaulsHelen Spauls joined the firm in 2000 and, after qualifying as a chartered accountant in 2007, carried on to qualify as a chartered tax advisor in 2008. She has a wide knowledge of tax and general practice, and is registered as an auditor with ICAEW.

Chloé Tams Email

Chloe TamsChloé Tams joined the firm in 2006 and qualified as a chartered accountant in 2011. Since qualifying, she has gained extensive experience in many areas, with particular knowledge of charity accounts preparation and audit.
